The Creatures Of The Mind

The Creatures of the Mind is the mere fruit of different impulses and intuitions that have almost obsessively gripped my soul in the specific period of time in which I dedicated myself to the production of the sculptures that compose it. Insofar as hermetic the whole work can, at a first glance, appear, it reveals, also thanks to the performance connected to it, a communicative and emotional simplicity that opens to the audience the field of free interpretation and transfiguration.
But let’s proceed gradually: the sculptures supporting the work enjoy a dual intrinsic characteristic that distinguishes them, traceable in the figurative aspect indissolubly connected to an abstract that emphasizes the irrational nature and which longs for the attainment of an atmosphere with mythological scents.
In their aesthetics, the sculptures show an allure of marine creatures, almost alien and shapeless because they belong to a world by its definition difficult to scrutinize in its entirety by the humankind. The mysteriousness of the ocean, characterized by murkiness and darkness, where the most varied forms of life are hidden, rises in the work as a symbol of a space that is no longer physical but psychological, such as the unconscious, in a total distortion of perspective. Similarly, the physical creatures become the expression of this new world of belonging: they are transformed into Creatures of the Mind. While from a purely expressive point of view the evident organic nature of the material of which the sculptures are composed connects the vitality intrinsic to them and testifies the energetic value of the same within their new reference system.
Ethereal in their substantiality and fluctuating in their change, the renamed, Creatures of the Mind, transfigure into emotions, promoting a reflective point about the relationship between the sentient ego and unconscious ego in a dreamlike and almost hallucinogenic vision of the normal mental processes of reaction to external stimuli.
The performance that accompanies the artwork emphasizes the voluptuousness of humoral changes, often linked to memories removed activated from triggering situations, relying on instinctual and the primordial principle of emotional conservation that emerges from the ocean of the unconscious, thus opening communicative doors, in the form of intuitions, between this mysterious world and the
most rational and logical part of the person, promoting an aesthetics of the introspective.
